Nelson Mandela Medallion

This is the official Presidential Medallion commemorating the inauguration of President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela on 10 May 1994. It is a true collector’s item – only 99 of these Medallions were minted and the first of these Medallions was struck personally by President Mandela at the South African Mint in 1995. The Medallions in both the First and Second Series were approved by the Office of the President and the Ministry of Trade and Industry to be sold in aid of Education Africa. Being a limited edition, both series sold out very quickly.

The Medallion donated to Education Africa by Miles Japhet is the third one to be struck in the First Series and carries the serial number 3. It is sealed, in mint condition and comes with a certificate of Authenticity from the South African Mint.
