Peter Sampson and Paradise Wildlife Park launched 'Project Life Lion' as the Lion King film was released. This occurred after the decimation of the lion and carnivorous wild animal populations in the Serengeti, through Canine Distemper Virus, which was transferred from domestic dogs that lived on the borders of the park. Peter led the charge to help raise funds to vaccinate the domestic dogs against both Canine Distemper Virus and Rabies. This eventually became an international effort funded by the Walt Disney Conservation Fund, the Gates Foundation, the World Society for the Protection of Animals (now World Animal Protection, Vauxhall Motors, Solvay Animal Health Care, and a host of other global conservation organisations.
Disney then paid for a group of 12 journalists to travel out to Africa, for the launch of Lion King 2 - Simba's Pride, to focus on the amazing conservation work that had taken place in the interim.
Disney's The Lion King is about a young lion named Simba, who is the crown prince of an African Savanna. When his father dies in an accident staged by his uncle, Simba is made to feel responsible for his father's death and must overcome his fear of taking responsibility as the rightful heir to the throne.
